Survival Prepping

Why should everyone begin a survival prepping program? Survival in itself is hardwired into the very fabric of our DNA as a species. Many of us have seen or experienced natural disasters, food shortages, and energy grid shutdowns. Some of the main emergency survival events that are going on today are earthquakes, flooding, gas shortages/price hikes, hurricanes, food desserts, tornados and supply chain shortages. These events can affect us directly or indirectly at any time. Living in a large or small city offers no protection when it comes to survival of the fittest. Survival prepping can be classified into 3 key areas. These 3 areas are urban, suburban and rural. Urban survival planning is probably the most neglected area of concern by most people since they live in a city. So how should we plan for such emergencies?

Everyone should always start with the most essentials and pan out from there. The 3 most essential resources for survival are water, food and shelter. In today’s society we must also consider energy as one of the essential needs. It takes energy to cook food, stay warm, run machinery, and communicate at distances using cell phones or computers. Everyone should prepare up to a minimum of 3- 6 months and even 1 years’ worth or more of long-lasting superfoods. These foods will be more valuable than money to survive a local emergency like a hurricane or a country wide disruption like a pandemic or a total grid collapse.

It is a known fact that without water, you will not survive an emergency for very long. The survival pyramid tells us we have three days before risking death due to dehydration. A strategy is to start by prepping for one week. Get seven 1-gallon water jugs for each family member and stash them under the bed. You can also store water in 5-gallon containers from the tap or use rain barrels to catch water from your gutter sills. Most experts on survival would advise that one should focus on staying in their own home to maximize survival rather than becoming a wandering refugee. As a refugee you are far more vulnerable to attacks from desperate outsiders than being homebound. One of the best and safest sources of energy during a power out is the use of a solar generators powered by solar panels.
